Starting Tuesday, July 16, 2024, transit customers can use PRESTO on Apple Wallet for easy fare payment.
Key Details:
- Transit Systems: Available on YRT, GO Transit, UP Express, Brampton Transit, Burlington Transit, Durham Region Transit, Hamilton Street Railway, MiWay (Mississauga), Oakville Transit, and TTC.
- Convenience: Pay with iPhone or Apple Watch using Apple Wallet.
- Easy Reload: Use the PRESTO app to load funds, set up autoload, and add transit passes in real-time.
- Express Mode: Tap your device on a PRESTO reader without unlocking it.
- Power Reserve: Works for up to five hours even if your iPhone needs a charge.
- Security: Use the Find My app to lock and locate your device and suspend/erase your PRESTO card.
- No Fees: Adding PRESTO to Apple Wallet is free.

Richmond Hill Recognized for 2024 Budget Excellence
Richmond Hill – The City of Richmond Hill has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2024 Budget.
This award honors the 2024 Budget Book as a top example of government budget practices in North America. To qualify, the budget had to meet high standards as a policy document, financial plan, operational guide, and communication tool.
The GFOA, with over 20,000 members in Canada and the U.S., promotes high-quality budget documents for transparency and public awareness.
Richmond Hill’s award reflects its commitment to transparent and efficient resource management. The City’s Strategic Plan 2024-2027 focuses on evidence-based, sustainable decision-making.

York Region is widening and improving 16th Avenue from Leslie Street to Kennedy Road to accommodate growth and provide more travel options.
Improvements include:
- Widening the road to six lanes to include transit/High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes
- Rehabilitating bridges and culverts
- Installing multi-use paths
- Upgrading intersections
- Streetscaping and tree planting
Timeline:
- 2016 to 2020: Environmental Assessment Study
- 2021 to 2030: Detailed road design
- Late 2025 to 2028: Construction activity on 16th Avenue from Leslie Street to Warden Avenue
- 2028 to 2030: Construction activity on 16th Avenue from Warden Avenue to Kennedy Road

York Regional Council Highlights Paramedic Program Success

Newmarket – York Regional Council announced that Paramedic Services exceeded all 2023 response time targets, significantly improving sudden cardiac arrest response times through community strategies with local fire services and the AED Program.
Key 2023 Achievements:
- Collaborative Efforts: Worked with fire services and the AED program to enhance cardiac arrest response times.
- Efficient Transfers: Maintained hospital transfer times under 30 minutes.
- New Station: Opened a new response station in Markham.
Future Plans:
- Modernized Dispatch: Launching a new system at Georgian Central Ambulance Communications Centre in November 2024.
- Expansion: New station in Vaughan’s Maple community, aiming for 30 stations by 2031.
- Innovative Programs: Continuing initiatives like Community Paramedicine for Long-Term Care and CP@Clinic.

- The Ministry of Energy has released a proposal regarding amendments to Ontario Regulation 509/18 (Efficiency Regulation). These amendments would harmonize the standards for 42 products by incorporating Natural Resources Canada standards, and would revoke now obsolete efficiency requirements to three products. - The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has updated a previous decision on protecting black ash and its habitat under the Endangered Species Act. - The Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism has updated a previous decision regarding amendments to the Ontario Heritage Act and Schedule 2 of the Proposed Homeowner Protection Act. - The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing has released a decision regarding the proposed changes to the Planning Act and Municipal Act through the Cutting Red Tape to Build More Homes Act (Bill 185). Through Bill 185, which received Royal Assent on June 6, these changes include the removal of upper-tier planning responsibilities for York Region, the establishment of a regulation-making authority that enables standardized housing designs, implementation of “Use it or Lose it” tools to support efficient allocation of housing-enabling infrastructure, and enhancing the framework for additional residential units through the removal of zoning barriers. - The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing has released a decision regarding changes to the Development Charges Act, which would enhance municipalities’ ability to invest in housing-enabling infrastructure. Through Bill 185, the Ministry has repealed the phase-in of development charges, reinstated studies as an eligible cost for development charges, reduced the Development Charge freeze period, and streamlined processes for extending existing Development Charge by-laws.
